What You Need To Know About Moving To New Jersey

It is always a thrilling moment when you are moving somewhere new. And if you are moving to New Jersey, there are a lot of reasons to get excited. The Garden State is one of the most beautiful places to live in the United States, and it offers an amazing blend of natural beauty, exciting recreational opportunities, and business. It’s a place for families full of thriving communities, and it is a great location for anyone who is thinking about commuting to New York City or Philadelphia.

However, whenever you are moving to a new place it always helps to make sure that you are as prepared as you can be. If you are moving from another country like the United Kingdom, then you will already know that you are going to have a lot of paperwork when it comes to visas, residency and work. And even if you are moving from somewhere a lot closer on the American side of the Atlantic, then moving to a new state still takes an awful lot of research. Here are a few things that you need to know if you are moving to New Jersey.

Get Ready For The Weather

One of the favorite topics of conversation among New Jersey residents is the weather, and in fairness, there is a lot of weather to talk about. In the summer months, New Jersey can be hot, humid, and sticky. The good news is that there are plenty of lovely outdoor spots that you can explore, but it is definitely a good idea to invest in a home with air conditioning or where air conditioning can be installed. A fan is simply not going to cut it. Then in the winter, you will need to prepare for some extreme cold. You can definitely expect a lot of snow and ice during the cold months in NJ, so keep this in mind. Pack plenty of warm clothes and make sure your new home has good insulation.

There Are A Lot Of Diverse Neighbourhoods To Choose From

Even though New Jersey is one of the smallest states in the United States (the fifth smallest to be exact), it is the most densely populated of them all. There are around 9.3 million people living in the Garden State, and as a result, there are a lot of different neighborhoods for you to choose from. New Jersey boasts a diverse population, and there are some absolutely fantastic schools and school districts for anyone who is moving with a family. It is worth noting that property prices are generally pretty high in NJ, although with the way the property market has been over the last couple of years, this should hardly come as a surprise. The most expensive areas to live in include Woodcliff Lake, Allendale, and Fairhaven, but you can find more affordable homes in neighborhoods that are still highly sought-after including Park Ridge, Waldwick, and Haddonfield.

You Won’t Be Short On Entertainment

If you are moving to New Jersey, then you are going to be absolutely spoiled for choice when it comes to ways to spend your nights and weekends. During the summer months, there are some beautiful beaches to explore (though you might have to fight your way through the visitors from neighboring cities New York and Philadelphia). The Jersey Shore is definitely not anything like what you might expect if you have seen the reality TV show, and there are around 130 miles of boardwalks and beaches so you should not have too hard a time finding a quiet spot for yourself. Arguably the most famous place to visit for anyone looking for some quality nightlife in Atlantic City. There are plenty of family-friendly spots and local history if you want to do some exploring, but the real draw is the nine casinos, including Caesar’s Atlantic City Casino, Borgata Casino and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. If you want to practice your skills before you step inside for an expensive night out, casino roulette games can be found online. It is also important to note that no visit to the boardwalk would be complete without trying some saltwater taffy.

Sports Are A Big Deal In New Jersey

Given how important sports is to the local residents in New Jersey, it may surprise you to learn that there is only one major league sports team that actually has the state in its name. The New Jersey Devils are the area’s NHL ice hockey team, and the good news is that if you are looking to move soon, their future looks bright after an excellent start to the season. If you’re more of an American Football fan, the New York Giants and the New York Jets both play in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium. If you’re a soccer fan and you are moving from the UK, then you will want to get tickets to see the New York Red Bulls, which is the men’s soccer team, and the NJ/NY Gotham FC, which is the women’s. However, it is worth noting that New Jersey residents may also support the teams in New York and Philadelphia, so expect to see a lot of different team jerseys around Garden State.

Traffic Is Probably Going To Be A Part Of Your Life

If there is one thing that you are going to need to prepare yourself for apart from the weather, it’s the traffic. A lot of people who live in New Jersey commute to New York to work, and if you are going to be one of them, it is time to get acquainted with the New Jersey Parkway. In terms of actual distance, it’s really not that far, but the traffic is notorious. With that in mind, you may want to think about different ways of getting to NYC if you need to work there. The PATH train is the most popular, which is the subway that takes you all the way into Manhattan, and it operates 24/7. If you live in the suburbs, then you should look into the NJ Transit train.
