Once a week, we interview one of our Patrons or a photographer from our Slack community on NJspots.com!

We hope that you learn a new spot or new camera setup!

Who are you, and where in New Jersey are you from?

I grew up in Bloomfield, NJ and had a summer house in Lavallette. I currently live in Point Pleasant.

What are the three best spots for photography in New Jersey, and why?

My go-to spots are Manasquan Inlet, ocean, fishing boats.

But my top three are as follows:

Asbury Park — carousel, casino, boardwalk…

Belmar fishing pier for sunrise (as seen in the cover photo).

Liberty State Park, Jersey City

What's your camera setup?

Nikon D500 favorite lens 14-24 2.8. And Nikkor 200-500 with 1.4 teleconverter. Gitzo tripod RRS ball head. Nisi filters.

What's your dream piece of gear? Think big!

Nikkor 600 lens f4.

What's one bucket list photo of New Jersey you haven't gotten yet?

Robbins Reef lighthouse — I want a shot of all NJ lighthouses!

Visit them all with our lighthouses map.

One tip for aspiring photographers?

I strongly suggest a one-on-one with someone to help you get comfortable with your camera. Then practice, practice, practice — don’t be afraid to try things.

What's your favorite part of being a photographer?

Being outside — even in the cold — waiting for a bird or the moon. And spending time with other photographers!
