Once a week, we interview one of our Patrons or a photographer from our Slack community on NJspots.com!
We hope that you learn a new spot or new camera setup!
Who are you, and where in New Jersey are you from?
My name is Anthony Carbone. I grew up and currently reside in Cumberland County NJ. I have always enjoyed taking landscape photos and in the past year I have ventured into some portrait work.
What are the three best spots for photography in New Jersey, and why?
Fortescue Beach is a great spot for sunset shots. It is my most favorite place to visit. Check out more of Cumberland County in our Scavenger Hunt.
Mauricetown is a nice quiet area with beautiful scenery. A great place to just sit and relax.
East Point Lighthouse is a very good spot for sunsets and you may see the ospreys nesting. For more lighthouses, check out our map.
What's your camera setup?
I mainly use my Canon Rebel T3i with the 18-135mm nano USM Lens. I also have a Rebel T6 and a 50D that I use periodically. I also have 55-250mm and 10-18mm lenses that I use for certain shots.
What's your dream piece of gear? Think big!
A Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x to get those really far shots.
What's one bucket list photo of New Jersey you haven't gotten yet?
A photo from the top of Mount Tammany.
If you’re like Anthony and want to hike to the top of this iconic spot, check out our guide to get you there. And don’t forget your hiking gear!
One tip for aspiring photographers?
Be spontaneous. Shoot everything. Try different camera settings. Take the shot even if you think the photo wont turn out well. I have surprised myself after the day is over when I check out the photos.
What's your favorite part of being a photographer?
